The children are flying the coop as I write this and campus is slowly coming to a halt. A few cruel administrators are still having meetings, but I don't imagine much will get accomplished. We need these breaks, the weather gets nice, the sun shines, and our restless spirits are aching to break away. We crave an escape from the humdrum routine of a our daily schedules. I know humans need order to survive, but I also think we need a little mystery, a little mystery, a little drama in our lives. Perhaps just a change of scenery is enough, but letting go of our mundane settings of daily life really helps promote our mental health. Doing the same thing day in and day out makes us boring. This Friday afternoon signals the beginning of a week-long break from the routine. Time to kick-back, grill, play Frisbee, swim, ski, take a cruise, go on a road trip, go to a concert, fly, unbutton the collar, put on a pair of old jeans, open a cold frosty one (Dr. Pepper, of course), chat with old friends, spend time with the parents, see your brothers and sisters. This doesn't have to be complicated, and in fact, it shouldn't be either hard or difficult. Spring is in the air, the flowers are on the verge, and winter is almost over. Time to celebrate, be a little dangerous, take a chance, be surprising, be surprised, indulge yourself, after all, isn't that what life is really all about? Surprise.
